Canon Cinema Camera Firmware Updates!

Canon released a series of firmware updates for their Cinema line of Cameras today. The biggest change for all of the camera’s is compatibility with the Canon RF 24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z Lens. We’ll go over every camera getting an update today.

Canon C70

With the release of the new Canon RF 24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z comes with a new C70 combo featuring the new lens. Check out the new Canon C70 + RF 24-105mm F2.8 Kit here.

The Canon C70 firmware Version 1.0.8.1 can be found here. Here’s what’s changed:

  • The following features are enabled when the following lens is attached: CN-E31.5-95mm T1.7 L S
    • Displaying metadata, such as the model name and the focal distance of the lens attached.
    • Displaying T number.
    • Support for Peripheral Illumination Correction and Chromatic Lens Aberration Correction.
    • Support for [Dual Pixel Focus Guide].
  • Adds support for the following RF-Mount Cinema Prime Lenses:
    • CN-R14mm T3.1 L F
    • CN-R20mm T1.5 L F
    • CN-R24mm T1.5 L F
    • CN-R35mm T1.5 L F
    • CN-R50mm T1.3 L F
    • CN-R85mm T1.3 L F
    • CN-R135mm T2.2 L F
  • The following features are enabled when the following lens is attached: RF24-105mm　F2.8L IS USM Z
    • Support for aperture ring adjustment.
    • Support for zoom operations.
  • Adds support for the Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E2.
  • Adds support for the Canon Multi-Camera Control.
  • Adds support for the RC-IP1000.
  • Adds Digital-Teleconverter function. (1.5x / 2x / 2.5x /3x)
  • Adds [_Proxy] option in XF-AVC proxy media name.
  • Improves Vector Scope.
    • Changes to display [BT.2020] in the frame when the color space is set to BT.2020.
    • Changes to always display the target color name.

Canon R5C

Canon XF605

The Canon XF605 firmware Version 1.0.3.1 can be found here. Here’s what’s changed:

  • Adds support for the Canon Multi-Camera Control.
  • Adds support for the Remote Camera Controller RC-IP1000.
  • Adds SRT protocol for IP streaming protocol.
  • Enables to select 1920×1080 59.94i/50i 25Mbps format when in XF-AVC recording.
  • Adds [Chunk Recording] function. Adds the ability to record proxy files in timed segments (30 seconds / 1 min / 2 min) when Main and Proxy recording is selected.
    • Simultaneously records a clip that split by time, suitable for automatic transfer to SD card B while the main clip is recorded to SD card A.
  • Adds the function to automatically transfer chunk recording clip via Content Transfer Mobile.
  • Enhances Clear Scan resolution.
  • Enables to change WFM size.
  • Enables to change Vector scope gain by touch.
  • Enables to change WFM/Vector scope transparency.
  • Improves Vector scope.
    • Changes to display [BT.2020] in the frame when the color space is set to BT.2020.
    • Changes to always display the target color name.
  • Adds [Canon 709 / BT.709] to the Gamma/Color Space in Custom Picture setting.
  • Adds [CMT 709] in LUT and View Assistance, Sub Rec Color Conversion.
  • Adds [G Gain] in White Balance in Custom Picture settings.
  • Adds [_Proxy] option to XF-AVC proxy media name.
  • Adds the ability to select multiple files from a playlist for indexing and continuous playback.
  • Adds [LCD/VF] in Peaking and Zebra settings.
    • The default setting of the [All] has been changed from [LCD/VF] to prevent unintended effects from being applied to HDMI/SDI output.
