SONY FX3 AND FX30 UPDATES

The Sony FX3 and FX30 Cameras had major updates released today. The Sony FX3 is being updated to version 3.0 (You can find it here). While, The Sony FX30 is updating to version 2.0 (located here). Here’s what the updates include.

You can now record in 4K DCI on both cameras. This is useful for when you want a little wiggle room in your framing, but still have to deliver a 4K product.

Both Cameras now also have the ability to shoot in true 24p. This makes the FX3 and FX30 more attractive B-cam options for you higher end cinema cameras. Now if you need a true 24p frame rate for you delivery the FX3 and FX30 are capable of doing so.

Also they’ve added 1.33x and 2.0x anamorphic desqueeze in camera. A powerful tool for framing with anamorphic lenses. However, they’ve left out 1.5x and 1.8x squeeze factors from the camera. In addition the 2.0x has 2.39:1 visual markers to help with framing. Without this a 2.0x anamorphic on a 16:9 sensor would be incredibly wide.

They’ve also added Sony Creators’ App support for the cameras, and more options for programing S&Q modes. All around a great update for the cameras.

However, Be ready to re-do you settings and configurations, as this update may reset some of those settings. Especially if you’re updating from an older version of the Sony FX3 software like version 1.01 or early. Updating from version 1.01 or earlier will factor reset your camera due to a file structure change.
