Quasar Science has released some exciting lighting products that DP’s, Grips, and lighting technicians will love. All of their bulbs are LED powered meaning they are dimmable and are more durable than Kino Flo bulbs while providing nice, even flicker-free lighting.
Do you have an old Kino fixture lying around because you got tired of replacing the bulbs when they break? Just buy some Quasar tubes, throw them in the fixture and you’re good to go. All of Quasar’s light tubes have a milk glass plastic diffuser coating that gives it a nice soft quality and subject falloff like you would expect to find with Kino Flo’s.
These lights are truly the LEGO of the lighting world. You can rig them up like you would Kino Flo’s or you can strip it down to just a bulb and mount it anywhere.
There are five main types of lights Quasar makes. The Q-LED Rainbow Linear Lamps with RGBX comes in either 2′ or 4′ and gives you a color temperature range of 2000 to 6000 Kelvin. They also are able to reproduce a full 360° hue palette for vibrant fully saturated color or mixed with X-fade white light for soft beautiful pastels. Includes color presets for Blue, Cyan, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, Magenta, and Purple. All Rainbow Lamps are equipped with on-board digital interface giving you command of Intensity, Kelvin, hue & saturation. Each lamp has a built in Lumen Radio CRMX chip for wireless control. The Rainbow can also be wired to DMX via Cat5 I/O Port.
The Q-LED T-8 comes in 2′ or 4′ at either 5600 or 3 Kelvin. The Q-LED Crossfade comes in 1′, 2′, 4′, 6′, and 8′ and offers a changeable color temperature range from 2000 to 6000 Kelvin. They also make a battery powered light called the Q-LED Lithium Ion Battery LED that comes with magnets on either end making it a really handy option to add a hair light, eye light, or adding a little fill without having to run extension cords all over the place. Quasar also makes a line of practical lighting bulbs.
Each light tube comes with a P1G or “PIG” as we are calling it at Texas Media Systems. This plugs into the end of the light and will let you plug the light in to power it. If you are running more than one light together you’ll probably want to pick up the Cluster Power Adapter so you can plug lights into this (depending on the cluster power adapter) and then into your dimmer or the wall. If you are going to be using more than one light and don’t have an old Kino-Flo lying around you may want to consider getting a backplate. These come in 1, 2, and 4 light configurations making it simple to run multiple lights on one stand. We are also carrying the Mathews MQ Mount designed to hold the bulbs with minimal light loss. They are also designed to make it impossible to crush your light.
